Figuring things out

At lake Wilson there is three trails, Cedar Trail, Switchgrass bike Trail, and Dakota Trail. I would take the kids out to Cedar Trail and Dakota Trail because they aren't as long and are more safe.

I have shortened the camp schedule to August 1st to August 4th to keep things cheap and affordable but I believe it is enough days for the kid to be educated and enjoy the camp.

The Daily Camping fee is $10.00 for day so that would just be $40.00 for my camp. Staying overnight is another $2.00 so $8.00 for that. This site says there is no trail fee anymore so we are welcome to run on that. I'm gonna rent one cabin for emergencies or anything else I may need from it. The cabin for 4 nights is $540 so I am not gonna rent it until the second night and only for the third night as well. so that would cut it down to $270. So far that is $328 dollars.

My estimate is there would be no more than 25 kids sign up for this so with that and I would like to have 1 assistant for every 5 campers that is 30 mouths to feed for 4 days. Breakfast, lunch, and Dinner.

That will be no more than five hundred dollars to do and I will have leftover money to improve my camp and buy items I may need for it and to pay my workers and myself.

Difficulties

Well I looked into the pricing of cabins at Lake Wilson and I have decided to instead buy tents for the campers and have them sleep in those. It's summer anyways what's wrong with sleeping outside?

My insurance will be WestPoint Insurance, they specialize in running camps and will have everyone fully covered. It comes at a price although so I am raising my camp price to $75.

What I will feed them is mostly carbs. Pretty much pasta or anything else good for runners. I will give them some sweets but not too much. Probably about one small candy bar a day. A lot of granola bars, fruits, veggies, bread, drinks with electrolytes in them and a lot of water. Pasta will be dinner everyday but just in different versions. Chicken Alfredo, Spaghetti, Raviolis, Lasagna, Cheesy Pasta etc. I will also give them availabilities to grab a granola bar or a fruit whenever they feel they need one.

I will also buy Pedialyte for the campers with cramps and probably me too. For lunches I could do simple PB and J's or anything simple that is good for the kids.

I could talk to the kids at the middle school and high school about my camp to see if anyone was interested in it.

For cooking I could rent out one cabin only and use that one to cook and have a special chill place for the workers.

Starting the preparation

I figured it was time to make a poster so I used Canvas' website to create mine and I personally think it worked out great.

I am thinking about upping the price because I am feeding these kids for a whole week and I don't know if that will work unless I buy food in large quantities for every camper. I would also give the kids fundraisers to go and try to raise money to make this easier for them and I could give them a free shirt for doing so.

I got another idea to use up some of our time! I could have the kids go fishing if they want and whoever doesn't just have some free time to hang out with the other campers. I will have these kids run twice a day and give them some free time every day to make my day and my assistants days easier. I think right now I have a pretty full schedule and can now focus on prices of items such as resting areas, food, and all other expenses.

I think this is gonna work out fine and I could see this as a real opportunity to present to a coach or maybe run this myself someday. It is a great way to take kids out in the nature and show them it while also preparing for cross country.

How to make this camp possible

How could I make this camp possible? I need to learn a lot about how camps are ran, how to keep the kids busy, and how to make it possible for me to run it without exhausting myself. One of my ideas I already mentioned is to have the seniors help me run it, but I will also have assistants to help me out with this. I mentioned it would be held at Lake Wilson so I would have to rent out cabins for the kids and my team to stay in. I would put tape on the kids doors and windows at night to make sure they don't run free at night.

I would also offer a list of ideas to my team and have them help me expand and improve the list for the week of camp. Of course there will be running. Gladly I've already ran and walked at Lake Wilson before and know the trails. They are long, hilly, and fun if you're not forced at a fast pace. The view is nice especially with the nature being so full and bright in the summer. I would hold competitions and also possibly a triathlon race just for the fun of it. I will have a dodgeball tournament, rope climbing, and rope swinging into the lake and see who can climb the fastest and swing the farthest. Having small prizes for all. I could also have a dance on the last day.

One idea that would work is to have a frisbee golf tournament and after you throw it you run to your frisbee as fast as you can and try to make it as fast as you can and still in as few shots as you can. Putting those two aspects together and somehow get a scoring system set up for that.

I will teach them the daily aspects of being a runner and the dedication, nutrition, motivation, discipline, hard work, and toughness it takes to be a runner.

Just hopefully I can keep them busy because right now I may fall short of the schedule and run out of things to do.

Why I want to make a xc summer camp

Why I want to start a XC camp

With the addition of cross country in middle school our running program for Hoisington is bound to take a jump and that is what it did last year. From a team that is usually a joke and not taken seriously to dang near making state. Just missing due to an injury of one of our athletes. I have a passion for running but it was burnt out my junior year. I regained it my Senior year having a serious team with serious goals. It made it so much more enjoyable for my team and I. It pushed me everyday to harder limits because I knew I wasn't only running for myself anymore, I was running for the people beside me.

With that being said the middle schoolers are also having great success and I want to make running more enjoyable for them and help them find the true joy in running. I was actually driving home the other day and I saw one of the middle school girls running and it made me smile to think of what this town can actually achieve in this sport. Just imagine if she wasn't running alone, if she had a running buddy or buddies. It makes it easier to run when you have someone with you.

Putting all my thoughts together and Mrs.Feist giving me the idea I am gonna create a schedule and list of things for a summer cross country camp. This is a great idea because if you're not running in the summer before cross country you missed out. We have no summer camp or even summer practice. I would make myself go run but find it hard because it just gets boring alone. It would be easier to run with your friends while you go out and do other things too! Just for a week or two I could have everyone interested in cross country  from fifth or sixth grade all the way to the upcoming seniors. I could also have the seniors kind of be assistants to me and help me run the camp.

I would take them to Lake Wilson because there is a lot of mountainous trails up there and a great view and atmosphere to run while also being a great place to do other things. I could take them swimming, go on hikes, climb the biggest mountain, hold competitions and anything I can think of as I get my idea sorted out.
